Joop den Uyl

John Marten ( Joop ) ( born 9 August 1919 in Hilversum, † December 24, 1987 in Amsterdam) den Uyl was a Dutch politician and Prime Minister 1973-1977 and 1967-1986 Chairman of the Partij van de Arbeid ( PvdA).

Life

Den Uyl was raised in a strict Protestant family. His father John died when Den Uyl was ten years old. From 1931 to 1936 he attended the Christian Lyceum in Hilversum, followed by a national economic study followed on from the University of Amsterdam. In 1942 he resigned his final exam in Economics from there, earning the " Doctorandus " title. Between 1943 and 1945 he was in the Empire office for price monitoring chemical products in the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. After the Second World War, he became a journalist at the newspaper Het Parool Vrij Nederland and. A short time he was in the party ARP conservative anti- revolutionaries.
