Buitenveldert

Buitenveldert is a residential neighborhood in the district of Amsterdam-Centrum ( the district: Amsterdam Zuid ) ( North Holland ) and had 2009 Buitenveldert Oost and West together in Buitenveldert 19,080 inhabitants.

History

As part of the general expansion plan ( " Algemeen Uitbreidungsplan " AUP) of 1935 it was decided that an extension of the city of Amsterdam was also in the southern part necessary. 1958 started Buitenveldert as southern garden city ( Dutch: " Zuidelijke Tuinstad " ) to create and 1959 were the first apartments are related.

On the eastern side of the district is the Amstel Park. Here the Floriade 1972 aligned. From the west by the east extends the Gijsbrecht van Aemstelpark shaping an ecological connection between the Amsterdamse Bos and the Amstel Park. The area is characterized by many green areas, detached villas and a relatively quiet residential area. The Free University of Amsterdam with an attached hospital and the shopping center " Gelderlandplein " are located in Buitenveldert and a large tennis center with indoor tennis court, a cemetery, a Christian school, a public library, a book market and the churches: St. Augustine, De Goede Herder, Pelgrimskerk and De Buitenhof. The district has a large number of Jewish residents, with synagogues, private schools, shops and many Japanese residents with co-owned shops and restaurants. Many companies sought housing for their foreign staff and the excellent transport links and the quiet location Buitenveldert was a suitable area.

Area attractions include the Riekermolen ( " Riekermühle " ) as well as near the statue of Rembrandt van Rijn.

Citizens' initiatives are the Turkish group Aktief, the women's organization Inter Culturele Vrouwengroup, a homosexual initiative called Homo Groep Zuid and the Moroccan group De Gouden Rivier.

Several bus lines of public transport Buitenveldert connect with Amsterdam-Centrum, Amstelveen, Aalsmeer and Uithoorn, the trams (Dutch: Tram ) No. 16 ( since 2003) and No. 24 ( since 2006).
