Omval (Amsterdam)

Omval (also spelled " de Omval ") is a headland and a district on the eastern side of the river Amstel in Amsterdam and in 2009 had approximately 2020 inhabitants.

History

De Omval was originally a peninsula ( Schier island ) and belonged to the municipality Ouder - Amstel. On January 1, 1921, the quarter part of the municipality of Amsterdam. Between 1962 and 1980 there were in the field of small companies that caused odors. Thus, a cocoa factory and a chemical company were known for the stench in the neighborhood. In addition, among other things, a vacuum cleaner factory and a shipyard were established there. Now, there are no longer these farms.

Omval belongs to Amstelstationbuurt in Amsterdam Oost. This district ( site name ) consists of the neighborhoods of Van der Kunbuurt, de Omval, HJE, Wenckebachweg, Amstel Business Park and Groenestaart with around 2020 inhabitants.

At the far edge of the Amstelstationbuurt are the Van der Kunbuurt and de Omval. De Omval is, in contrast to the working-class district of Van Kunbuurt, a somewhat " more elegant " ( chiquere ) district with relatively expensive apartments.

Agreed in 1987 the Amsterdam municipal council to a plan, with the names of famous Dutch painters to build in de Omval three office buildings. These are the Rembrandt gates, Mondiaan gates and Breitner gates. The Rembrandt gates are the tallest building in Amsterdam.
