Jury Grand Prix

The awarded the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize honors the second best feature film competition at the film festival held annually from Berlin to the Golden Bear. The prize was first awarded in the seventh edition of the film festival in 1957 as a "special price ". Previously untitled Silver Bears were awarded. From 1961 to 1972 the award was renamed as the " Special Jury Award " from 1973 to 1999 as a " Special Jury Prize ". Since 2000 is the official designation " Grand Jury Prize ". About the award agrees the competition jury, usually composed of international filmmakers.

Award winners

The most frequently awarded the works of French Film Directors ( 10 victories, including works of filmmakers with dual nationality as Roman Polanski ), followed by their colleagues from Italy ( 8 wins ), Germany and the USA ( 6 each ), Hungary ( 5) and Argentina and the people's Republic of China ( 4 each ). Was twice awarded the Brazilian filmmaker Ruy Guerra (1964 and 1978).

Multiple in the past, the jury could not agree on a winner. Film directors in the German cinema were successful first time in 1966, when the German Peter Schamoni were able to prevail ( closed season for foxes ) against the competition. He was followed by Ulrich Schamoni (1967 for every year ), Werner Herzog (1968 for signs of life ), Peter Zadek (1969 for I am an elephant, Madame ), Andreas Dresen (2002 for Grill Point ) and Maren Ade (2009 for all others ).
