Karsten Baumann (born 14 October 1969 in Oldenburg ) is a former German football player and current coach.

Career

As a player

The defender made ​​his first steps as a footballer at TuS Eversten, after which he played until 1988 at VfB Oldenburg. At the age of 19 he moved to Bundesliga 1 FC Cologne. By the time he was able to secure a regular place as a defender in the starting eleven. His services were rewarded by the DFB with invitations for the U21 national team. There he was once employed, as in the Olympic national team. 1998 brought him Borussia Dortmund in order to strengthen the defensive area. Also in the Ruhr area he had long a regular place safely. Nevertheless, he was singled out by the end of the 1999/2000 season and moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. A year later he moved back to Cologne, where he joined the club unterklassigen SCB Prussia Cologne joined. Then it was running when Wuppertal SV Borussia and the SG Wattenscheid 09 before his playing career ended in 2006.

As coach

After the end of his active career Baumann began a five-month coach training at the Hennes Weisweiler Academy in Cologne. There he received the UEFA Pro Licence, and was honored as Best course. During his training, he was already working with the Association of Contract football players as coaches for unemployed professional football player. From February 20 2008 to 28 April 2009, he served as head coach at third division FC Rot -Weiß Erfurt.

On 12 June 2009 he signed a two year contract with the second division VfL Osnabrück relegated, with whom he claimed a 1-0 win at Wacker Burghausen celebrated the resurgence in the 2nd League on May 8, 2010. On 21 March 2011, VfL Osnabrück announced that Baumann was released together with his assistant coach Heiko Nowak of its activities.
