Kim Kwang-sun

Kim Kwang -sun ( born June 8, 1964 in Chunnahbokdo, South Korea ) is a retired South Korean boxer who was 1988 Olympic champion in the flyweight.

Amateur

As an amateur, won Kim 1983 World Cup tournament in Rome. In 1984, Kim took in the light flyweight at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in part, but had Lospech and lost in his first fight against the eventual winner Paul Gonzales. At the World Cup in Seoul 1985, he never got beyond the semi-finals and at the amateur world championships in 1986 in Reno, he retired again already in the first round of the tournament, but won the Asian Games in Seoul.

In 1987 he won the World Cup tournament in Belgrade on a tight final win over the 19 -year-old Andreas Tews. At the Olympic Games in his native Kim 1988 Olympic champion in the flyweight. He suggested, among others, the American Arthur Johnson, the Bulgarians Serafim Todorov, Timofei Skryabin and in the final turn, Andreas Tews.

Professional

In 1990, he became a professional. After only five fights Kim competed against Humberto González for the WBC title on June 7, 1992. In the lead he lost in the twelfth and final round nor by technical knockout. On 17 Jilu 1993, he called for WBC and IBF titlist Michael Carbajal out, who had previously beaten González, and was defeated again prematurely, this time particularly spectacular.

Then he stepped back with six wins and two defeats.
