Kisumu County

Kisumu County (until 2010 Kisumu District ) is a county in the province of Nyanza in Kenya. The Countyhauptstadt is Kisumu. 2009 968 909 people lived there at 2009.5 km ². 13.9 % of households are connected to the power grid. The County is located on the eastern shore of Lake Victoria and lives mainly on subsistence farming and fishing. The literacy rate in 1996 was 28% of the female population of the male population, 31% of the literate.

Structure

The Kisumu County is divided into four divisions. There are six electoral districts in the County, Kisumu Town East, Kisumu Town West, Kisumu Rural, Nyand, Muhoroni and Nyakach. Under the Constitution of 2010, the districts of Kisumu East, Kisumu West and Nyando were united under the new name of Kisumu County.
