Kork Ballington

Hugh Neville " cork " Ballington ( born April 10, 1951 in Salisbury, Rhodesia ) is a former South African motorcycle racer. He denied 1976-1982 a total of 98 races in the MotoGP World Championship and won four world titles.

Ballington used national races to make a name and gain access to the British racing scene. He drove for several years on an outdated Yamaha before he move to the Kawasaki factory team in 1978 and 1979 respectively, the titles in the 250 cc and up to 350 cm ³ to win.

In 1980 he went with Kawasaki in the 500 cc class. However, the development of the new motorcycle put the team in front of big trouble. After three years in the premier class in which Ballington could not build on the successes in the smaller classes, he ended his active career.
