Krymsk

Krymsk (Russian Крымск ) is a city in the Krasnodar region of Russia with 57 382 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). It lies on the left Kuban Creek Adagum, 87 km away from the capital region of Krasnodar. Nearest city Abinsk is around 15 km south-east of Krymsk.

History

The town was founded in 1862 as a Cossack village Krymskaja, which means roughly ' Crimean Cossack village '. Five years earlier, a military base was originated there. The crew came partly from the nearby Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which explains the name. With the granting of town rights in 1958, the town name was changed in Krymsk.

As early as the 1860s began in the vicinity of the place, crude oil production, which gave the place a certain economic importance quickly. 1885 received Krymsk a railway connection. In the 1930s and 1940s it was also an important agricultural center.

During World War II Krymsk from August 1942 to May 5, 1943, occupied by the German Wehrmacht.

Economy and Transport

Currently, the Rajon Krymsk one of the most important centers of oil production in the Krasnodar region, even if it itself is no oil processing plants in the city Krymsk. Among the industries in Krymsk include various food factories, farms and a building material factory. Due to the relatively warm and mild climate, the environment of Krymsk is one of the few areas in Russia, operating in the wine.

The city is located on the Russian highway M4 from Moscow to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. In Krymsk several railway lines intersect. From the station there are Krymskaja of compounds according to Novorossiysk, Krasnodar, Anapa, Slavjansk on the Kuban and in other cities.
