Latvian Higher League
The Virsliga is the highest Latvian Football League. Since 2013, the Virsliga of SMScredit.lv is sponsored and is officially SMScredit.lv Virsliga.
The game is played in a calendar year, the season starts in early April and ends in early November. Ten teams compete in four rounds against each other and thus determine the champion. The last club a season gets off and is replaced by the Master of the 1st league. The Penultimate Virsliga and runner-up of the 1st League Relegation play two games of the fate or promotion to the top division.
The League existed from 1927 to mid-season in 1944, then again in 1992. During the 2009 and 2011 season, exceptionally played only nine teams in the Virsliga.
