The Cabover Truck Leyland Constructor 1981 was the second model developed by the British Leyland Motor Corporation brought new based on the T45 Project on the market. The construction vehicle was built primarily as a dump truck and replaced the model series Leyland Leyland Bison and Buffalo. Followed in 1994 successor DAF 85

Leyland Constructor 1981-1990

Essentially, the constructor was available as a construction vehicle in drive formula 6x2, 6x4, 8x2, 8x4 and 8x8. However, it had also existed in the transport of goods with box or as a tractor. All versions had a payload of 10-30 tons. As in Leyland Road Train with the T45 cab in normal design or as a double cabin with sleeping possibility and optional high roof. Basically, with the same equipment the cabin but here the cabin floor, however, was equipped with thick padded rubber pads instead of a carpet and there were optional vinyl seat covers instead of fabric upholstery. From his predecessors Leyland Bison & Buffalo the constructor took over the chassis with the exception of the front portion of the lead frame due to the connections with the new T45 cabin. Also the braking system has been adopted, which was only introduced with the predecessors in recent years, but improved again. The tandem rear drive axles used with hub reduction gear originated in principle also of its predecessors, but have been adjusted to reflect the higher requirements and performance capabilities of the motors. This resulted in the first years of construction at a particularly high load damage to the drive shafts, as well as led a poorly -designed radiator at the 6x version problems. Leyland put these sources of error from fairly quickly and changed the designs.

Even when Leyland Bison revolutionary but initially unreliable direct-injection diesel engine was installed Leyland 500 OHC originally. After BLMC had but this modernized to Leyland 0-680 and as L11 & TL11 built in Bison, offered here also the legacy of design and comfort her Bison, like the other equipped with the engine family models, technical reliability. It was therefore not surprising that the relatively new TL11 6- cylinder diesel engine, which had high torque, has now taken over the Constructor with 181 hp or 209 hp. For the 8x version, there was additionally a Rolls -Royce with 220 hp or the Gardner 6LXC -T with 230 hp diesel engine. The transmission was in each case with the Eaton 400 gearbox. For heavier tasks, there was a Spicer 10 speed transmission for the 6x a Fuller 9-speed and for the 8x. In 1985, the engine range has been revised. The Leyland TL11 now offered 260 hp and the 8x version was 300 hp diesel engine can also be ordered with a Perkins engines or Cummins engine. Thus, the constructor was 30:30 the strongest dump truck world for some time. To cope with the extra power and lower production costs, which still coming on a construction Albion double rear axles were on the 30:30 now delivered through which Eaton replaced.

Leyland DAF 60/ 60 DAF 1990-1993

The merger to Leyland DAF the constructor has now been marketed as Leyland DAF 60 in the UK and as DAF 60 in continental Europe in the course of 1990. Now there was only the DAF ATi 11.6 liter diesel engine with 300 or 330 horsepower, which is itself a development of the Leyland was 0-680 with an Eaton 12-speed split gearbox. By the end of 1993, the series was produced from 1994 and replaced by the DAF 85.
