5th century BC
443 BC ago, the reigning consuls had led the civil lists. By inclusion in this list you became a Roman citizen and tax. With Lucius Papirius Mugillanus and Lucius Sempronius Atratinus this office was the first time in two specially selected censors.
4th century BC
393 BC, the first and only time was elected a replacement ( censor suffectus ) after the death of a censor. Marcus Cornelius Maluginensis replaced Gaius Iulius Iullus. With Gaius Marcius Rutilus was first elected in 351 BC, a plebeian in this office. Previously, only patricians had been justified. Some years later, in 339 BC, was established by law that at least one censor a plebeian family must come.

2nd century BC
131 BC were both censors from plebeian families for the first time.
1st century BC
The dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla managed 81 BC the office of censor from. The censorship has been used 70 BC again. Even during the Roman civil war ( at the times of Gaius Julius Caesar ) no censors were elected.
