History
New Hampshire was in 1769 divided into five counties. The term derives from the counties (English counties ) in the UK from. The five counties were:
- Cheshire County, named after the county of Cheshire in England
- Hillsborough County, named after the British politician Wills Hill, 1st Marquess of Downshire
- Rockingham County, named after Prime Minister Charles Watson- Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham
- Strafford County, named after William Wentworth, 2nd Earl of Strafford
Later new county from parts of other counties were formed again and again, these were:
Since 1840, no new counties were formed more.
