History

The pieces were recorded between July 1968 and May 1971, nearly sorted chronologically on the album. The double album was released on June 23, 1972 in the United Kingdom on 31 October 1972 in the United States. The title track was released as a single in 1969, arrived in the United States but only after the release of the double album in the charts, where he was ranked 11.

In 1994 a first CD version, which contained fewer pieces than double albums for reasons of space.

Album

The double album contains almost all previously released singles title of the band, the five titles of the EP Life Is a Long Song, several titles of previous albums and two live tracks By Child Permission Of and Dharma for One of concerts at Carnegie Hall New York, taken in November 1970. Most titles were composed by Anderson and written; the instrumental title By Permission Of Child is an adaptation of several topics of classical music of John Evan, Dharma for One is from Anderson and bunkers. Bourée is the adaptation of a Bourrée by Johann Sebastian Bach by Anderson. The title of the EP can be found on the second LP B-side. Of the first four studio albums the songs Song for Jeffrey, Bourée, Teacher, Inside and Locomotive Breath come, depending on the output also Alive and Well and Living In and Hymn 43

Cover

The brown, grained leather-look cover shows in gold embossing Ian Anderson with the flute, with ornaments on all four sides. Band name and album title are also gold in capital letters above the Anderson - image. The also brown back shows on the same grain. The cover is provided in the inner part with a pink, great album, 20 -page booklet with over 50 photos of the band. On the last three pages are the "credits" of the songs, as well as on the last page of the official album "credits".

Effect

The album reached number 8 in the UK and # 3 in the United States.
