Los Carneros AVA

Los Carneros AVA (aka Carneros AVA) is an American wine region that extends beyond the administrative districts Sonoma County and Napa County, California. The area is located north of the bay of San Pablo and is the southernmost appellation of Napa County. The cool breezes from the nearby bay and often cool mist form similar to that of the nearby Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley AVA, a micro-climate that is clearly distinguishable from the hot climate of the more northerly regions of the Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. Early maturing varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive excellently here. The wines have a strong acid backbone and often serve as the base wine for the production of sparkling wine.

Los Carneros belongs to the list of American Viticultural Area and is part of the Wine Country as well as the larger Napa Valley AVA, North Coast AVA, Sonoma Coast AVA and Sonoma Valley AVA.
