Lure, Haute-Saône

Lure (formerly German: Lüders and Luders ) is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté. It is the seat of the Prefecture for the district of Lure.

Geography

Lure is located on the southwestern edge of the Vosges at 293 m altitude. The relatively flat municipality is crossed by Ognon. The city is almost completely surrounded by woodland. After Besancon in the South West is 80 km and to the eastern Belfort 30 km away. The city is situated on the edge of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges, with which it is associated.

History

In the city the Benedictine monastery of Notre -Dame, St- Pierre and St- Paul is occupied since 959, which was allegedly founded by the Columban students Deicolus / Desle. The monastery was endowed by Alsatian counts and was in close contact with the Alsace later. Among other things, the Abbey was a bull of Pope Alexander III. in 1178 various domains, including Château Brotte awarded. Around 1340 the monks built a fixture against encroachments from the House of Valois. Since 1392 it was placed under the rule of the Dukes of Austria. 1543 Pope Paul III united. the monastery with the Abbey Murbach. 1544 got this by Emperor Charles V to mint money for the information obtained in their possession silver, the mint was in Guebwiller ( Gebweiler ). With the French Revolution in 1790 the monastery was abolished.

Castle

The first castle was built probably in 1265; until 1271 lived a " Ponce de Chatenios " in the castle. This was followed by various owners and destruction. 1835 restored Countess of Belay the residential tower. This facility is provided in the meantime, partly travelers for hire.

The original castle was comprised of four corner towers and walls system. Today, there are from the towers, only the large Donjon and parts of a smaller tower. The plant has been used over the centuries as a quarry to build surrounding buildings can. Inside the complex were formerly houses and workshops. Access to these buildings had been through a drawbridge.

Church

The Catholic Church of St -Martin is located in the town center on the main thoroughfare; it was rebuilt in the 18th century, which has obtained a chapel of the 16th century under the bell tower. The interior dates from the former abbey church. The pulpit was built in 1745 Cuppillard. The altarpiece polychrome stucco dates from the 18th century. The church houses the relics of St.. Deicolus / Desle and St.. Columbanus of Luxeuil.
