Mala Vyska

Mala Wyska (Ukrainian Мала Виска; Russian Малая Виска / Malaya Wiska ) is a city in central Ukraine with about 11,000 inhabitants (2013 ) and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

Geography

The city is situated on the banks of Mala Wys ( Мала Вись ), a 40 km long tributary of the Welyka Wys in Kirovohrad Oblast, 61 km west of Oblastzentrums Kirovohrad and 17 km south of the city Nowomyrhorod. Also part of the city council community, beside Mala Wyska still the village Krasnopilka ( Краснопілка ) and the settlements Komsomolske ( Комсомольське ) and Uljaniwka ( Улянівка ).

History

Mala Wyska was founded in 1752 by immigrants from Moldova. Among the immigrants were not only Moldovans, but also Serbs, Montenegrins and Bulgarians. 1915 got the place a railway terminal and a train station. The village was occupied from 1 August 1941 to 13 March 1944, troops of the Wehrmacht. 1957 Mala Wyska received the status of a city.

Mala Wyska is the administrative seat of the founded in 1923, the same Rajons. The Rajon Mala Wyska (Ukrainian Маловисківський район ) has about 45,000 inhabitants and an area of 1248 km ². The population density is 36 inhabitants per km ².
