Bobrynets

Bobrynez (Ukrainian Бобринець; Russian Бобринец / Bobrinetz ) is a city in central Ukraine with 10,998 inhabitants ( 2013). It is located in the south of the Kirovohrad Oblast, and is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons 53 km South of the Oblasthauptstadt Kirovohrad.

History

The first mention of the town dates from 1767 (as Mali Bobrinetz ). In 1816 the town had 1,910 inhabitants and was already in 1828 the status of a city. In 1900 the city had 18,470 inhabitants, of whom 3,481 were Jews.

The city was occupied on August 6, 1941 to March 16, 1944 by troops of the Wehrmacht. During the German occupation the city was the capital of the district Bobrinetz in the General District Nikolayev within the Reich Commissariat Ukraine.

Coat of arms

The original coat of arms of the city of 1847 was divided into two parts. In the upper part was the emblem Kherson Province, to which the city belonged. The lower part turned bustards, surrounded by sheaves of corn represents the bustards were at that time, unlike today, common birds around the city. The sheaves symbolize agriculture, the main business field of the residents. The current coat of arms ties in with the historical, but without the subordination to show below a province, but crowned with a mural crown.

Rajon

Bobrynez is the administrative seat of the homonymous Rajons. The Rajon Bobrynez (Ukrainian Бобринецький район ) has 31 593 inhabitants and an area of 1496 km ². The population density is 21 inhabitants per km ². In Rajon is the birthplace of Leon Trotsky, the village Bereslawka.
