Marc Racicot

Marc F. Racicot ( born July 24, 1948 in Thompson Falls, Sanders County, Montana ) is an American politician of the Republican Party. He was from 1993 to 2001 Governor of the State of Montana.

Early years

Marc Racicot spent his childhood in Libby. Until 1970 he attended Carroll College in Helena. After studying law at the Law School of the University of Montana, he was admitted as a solicitor in 1973. He then joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. There he was a military prosecutor.

Political rise

After his return in 1976 he became deputy prosecutor in Missoula County. In 1977 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice ( Attorney General ) of Montana and at the same time special prosecutor for difficult cases. In 1988, he became Minister of Justice himself his state. He was Governor of Montana in 1992. He won with 51 % of the vote against the Democratic candidate Dorothy Bradley. 1996 Racicot ran again for the office. Chet Blaylock, which was set up as a rival candidate, died before the election on 23 October 1996. The election campaign of the Democrats was continued by Judy Jacobson. Racicot won the election with 79 % of votes.

Governor of Montana and later life
