Marie Kettnerová

Marie Kettnerová ( born April 4, 1911 in Prague, † 28 February 1998 in London) was a table tennis player from Czechoslovakia. She was six -time World Champion.

Between 1932 and 1950 Kettnerová participated in 11 World Championships, where she won a total of 23 medals. They won in 1934 ( winning the final over Astrid Krebsbach ) and 1935 (before Magda Gál ) the title in the singles and doubles in 1936 ( with Marie Šmídová ). 1935, 1936 and 1938, she was team champion with Czechoslovakia. The title of 1934 meant the first gold medal of a woman from Czechoslovakia.

Silver medals she won at the World Cup in 1935 in a double with Marie Šmídová and mixed with Stanislav Kolář, at the World Cup 1937 in mixed doubles with Stanislav Kolář, at the World Cup 1939 in mixed doubles with Václav Tereba as well as with the team at the 1939 World Cup. Together with the German Anne Marie Schulz she came in the 1938 World Cup semi-finals.

Kettnerová characterized by an offensive game with very hard driven forehand balls. She was admitted to the ITTF Hall of Fame in 1993.
