Markazi Province

The Markazi (Persian استان مرکزی ) is a province in northwestern Iran. The capital is Arak.

In the province of 1.34959 million people ( 2006 census ). The area of ​​the province covers 29 130 square kilometers. The population density is 46 inhabitants per square kilometer.

History

The city Chomein in Markazi province in 1902 Ruhollah Khomeini birthplace of, the later Shiite cleric and political and spiritual leader of the Islamic revolution in Iran 1978 until 1979.
