Miami Marlins (MLB ) (since 2012)

The Marlins Park is a baseball stadium in Little Havana, about 3 km west of the city center of Miami, home of the Miami Marlins. The stadium is located on the site of the former Orange Bowl. It is only the sixth MLB stadium with a retractable roof. The capacity is 36 742 spectators.

History

Since the establishment of the Miami Marlins under the name Florida Marlins, the team played at Sun Life Stadium football games which originally was built for American. Several modifications could make the football stadium, not a multi -function stadium. The late 1990s, the idea came up a pure baseball stadium with a retractable roof to build. After the Marlins 2003 World Series win was presented the officials at the Miami -Dade County's plans for the new stadium which should be on the site of the Orange Bowl Stadium.

The new stadium from the beginning was very controversial because of the financing by the City and the County and was the subject of the election campaign in 2009 for the post of mayor of the city of Miami. After several disputes could in July 2009 with the construction to begin, almost three years later in March 2012 was opened the stadium.
