Maximilien de Hénin-Liétard

Maximilien de Henin- Liétard (* 1542, † December 21, 1578 in Antwerp), Count of Boussu and Mr. Beuvry

Life

Maximilien was a son of Jean V. de Henin from a hennegauischen noble family out of the house Henin and Anne of Burgundy, daughter of Adolf of Burgundy.

After the death of his uncle Maximilian of Burgundy in 1558 he inherited his possessions he had to sell due to this debt, however.

Maximilien was established on June 17, 1567 as governor of Holland, Zeeland and Utrecht by the Spanish King Philip II. He took over for the Office of William I of Orange -Nassau who had applied for his discharge on arrival of Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alba.

He was taken defeated by the Beggars on October 11, 1573 at the Battle on the Zuiderzee and captured. Until the Pacification of Ghent, he remained in captivity and entered in the service of William I of Orange -Nassau thereafter.

In September 1577 he was appointed by the States-General governor of Gelderland. After his death in 1578 he was buried in the grave chapel of the family in Boussu.

Family

He married around 1568 his brother Charles ( † 1566), Charlotte de Werchin ( 1542-1571 ) daughter of Pierre de Werchin and Helena de Vergy widow. They had one son:
