Menétrux-en-Joux

Menétrux -en- Joux is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Menétrux -en- Joux is located on 675 m above sea level. M., 22 km east-southeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on the high plateau of Champagnole Combe d' Ain between the west and the chains of the high Jura in the east, north of the Taleinschnitts Hérisson.

The area of ​​8.78 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the plateau of Menétrux, the average at 700 m above sea level. M. lies. This gently undulating plateau descends to the west slowly. It shows a loose structure of meadow and woodland. Especially the northern and eastern sections have vast forests: Bois de Beauregard, Bois du Taureau, Bois de la Signat and Bois de Jeanrau. To the south, the municipality's area extends into the valley of Hérisson. The creek has a 500 m wide, flat valley floor. Rise on both sides of steep, up to 200 m high slopes that are wooded and traversed at various points with distinctive rock faces. Today's valley shape was created during the ice age by glacial erosion along an existing Talk heritage. The community also has an interest in the Lac du Val, which is drained by the Hérisson.

To Menétrux -en- Joux addition to the actual site includes various hamlets and isolated farms, including:

History

The Megalithic Pierre- Folle indicates that the municipality of Menétrux -en- Joux was already inhabited in prehistoric times. First mentioned is the place in the 12th century. Since the Middle Ages it belonged to the reign of Châtelneuf. In the early 17th century left the family Roux, who was entrusted with the function of a governor for Menétrux, built a stately home in the village. Together with the Franche -Comté came Menétrux -en- Joux with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. The two hamlets Val- Val- Dessus Dessous and a brief break until 1815 the town of Vaux -de- Chambly and then merged with the municipality of Chambly. 1821, this community was divided again; Val- Val- Dessus Dessous and were incorporated to Menétrux -en- Joux, while Chambly was merged with Doucier.

Attractions

The Chapel of Menétrux -en- Joux was built in 1664. From 1824, the chapel dates back to the hamlet La Fruitière. Among the natural attractions include the Hérisson waterfalls and the Lac du Val

Population

With 59 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Menétrux -en- Joux is one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 143 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Menétrux -en- Joux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Doucier to Saint -Laurent -en- Grandvaux.
