Ministry of the Environment (Italy)

The Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea (Italian Ministero della Tutela del Territorio e dell'ambiente e del Mare, short MATTM ) is the Ministry of the Environment of Italy and part of the government of Italy. Based on the Via Cristoforo Colombo in Rome Ministry was established on 1 August 1986.

Current Environment Minister in the Cabinet Renzi is Gianluca Galletti.

Tasks

The Ministry is responsible for fundamental questions of environmental policy, nature conservation and landscape management, soil conservation, flood control, marine conservation and climate protection and environmental impact assessment.

Organization

The political leadership consists of the ministers and two or three secretaries of state. The latter are in Italy No officials but politicians. Official head of the ministry which is the highest official is the Secretary-General. Administratively subject to him the head of department ( " Directors-General ") of the current five departments ( " General " ) of the Ministry:

  • Department of General tasks and staff
  • Department of Soil Conservation and Water Management
  • Department of Natural Resources and the Sea
  • Division for Sustainable Development, Climate and Energy
  • Department of Environmental Impact Assessment

The division of the Ministry include, among others, the research institute Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale ( ISPRA ) and administrative facilities of national parks in Italy and other conservation areas where these are a national responsibility. Assigned to the Ministry are special departments or units of national police authorities, in particular the Carabinieri, the Corpo Forestale dello Stato, Guardia Costiera and the Guardia di Finanza.

History

The Ministero dell'ambiente was founded in 1986 by the Cabinet Craxi II; front of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage since 1983 and a minister without portfolio had worked environmental matters. As part of a reform of the government bureaucracy ( RiForma Bassanini ), it was renamed the Ministero della Tutela del Territorio e dell'ambiente 1999. 2001 took over parts of the tasks of the former Ministry of Public Works. 2006, the Ministry received its current name.
