Geographical location

Mistelgau is located about 10 km west of Bayreuth on the northern edge of the Franconian Switzerland.

History

The later Margrave of Brandenburg -Bayreuth since 1248 were territorial lords in the municipality. The first documentary mention of the place was in the year 1379th From 1500 Mistelgau was in the Frankish Empire circle. As part of the Prussian Principality of Bayreuth since 1792 Mistelgau fell in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 to France and came to Bavaria in 1810. Through the town led by a local train to Bayreuth Hollfeld.

Incorporations

The incorporations found on 1 April 1971 ( part of a church ), on 1 January and 1 July 1972 ( together six municipalities ) and on 1 May 1978 ( a municipality ) instead. On September 1, 2010, a portion of the unincorporated area was incorporated Löhlitzer forest.

Population Development

Policy

Mayor Georg Birner ( Wählergemeinschaft Plösen - Gollbach ). He was the successor of Johann Feulner ( CSU / Nonpartisan Wählergr. ) In 2002.

The local elections of 2002 and 2008 led to the following distributions seat in the municipal council:

Culture and sights

The Truppach castle is a square building with two floors. At the corners protrude bay-like towers above the roof. Through various alterations, the castle lost its fortified medieval character. On the history of stately homes in Truppach see also Truppach ( nobility ).

By the year 2005, the clay pit Mistelgau served to reduce raw material for the production of bricks. Nationwide notoriety she gained because of its impressive fossils. By a " Belemnitenschlachtfeld " and the remains of dinosaurs, it is one of the most important fossil sites in Europe.

Leisure

In the district of Upper Lake Upper Lake the spa offers an extensive health and wellness program. Since 2007, a holiday village is planned in the vicinity of the spa, but due to financial problems of the Dutch investor Ed Bierman's a start of construction has not been done.
