Mölndal Municipality

Mölndal is a town south of Gothenburg in western Sweden Västra Götaland and the old province of Västergötland and Halland. Capital is the place Mölndal.

History

The name " Mölndal " is derived from Möllornas dal, Valley of the Mills. The water mills were in the 19th century a significant factor for the onset and recovery, especially in the paper and textile industry. Today Mölndal is especially due to the proximity to Gothenburg headquarters of many multinational companies such as Ericsson and AstraZeneca.

Near the village Lindome is the HVDC converter station Kontiskan.
