Muro, Majorca

Muro is one of the 53 autonomous communities of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca. The eponymous main town is the administrative center of the municipality in the region ( comarca ) of Pla de Mallorca.

The municipality of Muro has 6977 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) on an area of ​​58.55 km ². This corresponds to 119.2 inhabitants per km ². In 2006, the proportion of foreigners was 14.2 % ( 956), the proportion of German population 2.0% (132). The official languages ​​are Catalan and Spanish ( Castilian). The spoken on the island Catalan dialect is called Mallorquí.

The main town of Muro is located ten kilometers inland west of the bay of Alcúdia ( Badia d' Alcúdia). A second population center is located in the tourist resort of Platja de Muro, which stretches as a continuation of Port d' Alcúdia Alcúdia Bay, south-east towards Can Picafort. Museums

  • Museu Etnològic - The Museu de Mallorca connected to the ethnographic museum in the Carrer Major 15 shows traditional furniture, a jewelery workshop and a waterwheel ( Sinia ) in the garden. The house of the Museum Can Simó is from the 17th century.

Natural monuments and nature parks

  • Parc natural de s'Albufera de Mallorca - Nature Reserve ( Natural Park ) to the north-eastern boundary of the municipality to Alcúdia is a dry defined freshwater swamp, which is traversed by the torrents Torrent de Sant Miquel and Torrent de Muro as well as many small channels.
