Mustafa Dağıstanlı

Mustafa Dağıstanlı ( born April 11, 1931 in Söğütpınar at Samsun ) is a former Turkish wrestler. He was two -time Olympic champion in 1956 and 1960 and three -time world champion in free style bantamweight or featherweight.

Career

Mustafa Dağıstanlı began at the age of 18 years with the rings, after he had already operated for many years, the Turkish oil wrestling. He developed into one of the best freestyle wrestler in the world in the 1950s, but also the Greco-Roman. Style dominated excellent. In 1952, he missed just under the qualification for the Olympic Games in Helsinki. But in 1953 he was already in the Turkish national team, wrestler, who stayed for two countries fighting in Sweden. Dağıstanlı won there against Vesterby Edvin Persson and Gothenburg bantamweight each on points.

His debut at an international championship was Dağıstanlı 1954 at the World Championships in Tokyo in free style bantamweight. He won it at first with three shoulder - and two -point wins the world title in front of the Hungarian Lajos Bencze and Tauno Jaskari from Finland.

1956 was also the first time Dağıstanlı to Olympic honors. In Melbourne he was with five victories superior Olympic champion bantamweight. A success he repeated in Rome in 1960 at featherweight. In Rome, he succeeded even six wins, so that the tie in the seventh fight against the Japanese Tamiji Sato did not prevent its triumph.

Between the Olympic Games in Rome had become world champion in free style featherweight Dağıstanlı in Istanbul in 1957 and 1959 in Tehran. In Istanbul he won all his fights, in Tehran, he had to accept a draw against Muhamad Ahkbar from Pakistan. 1955 and 1958 found no world championships are held in free style.

After his playing days as a wrestler Mustafa Dağıstanlı operated as a politician and businessman in Samsun. For his contributions to the sport wrestler he was taken in September 2009 in the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.
