Narumi Takahashi was born in Chiba. She followed her older sister and began at the age of five years with the figure skating. Because the profession of their father, the family moved to China, where Takahashi spent five years of her life from the age of nine years. At twelve, she moved from the individual race to pair skating. My first partner was Gao Yu, with whom she recorded for China at the national championships. Takahashi left China and returned to Japan. There she found indeed a new partner, but the success was due to the small size differences. After a two-year correspondence with coach Richard Gauthier, whom she had met at a competition in China, she moved to Montreal. Gauthier was looking there after a pair skater for her and Bruno Marcotte finally told him Mervin Tran, of her partner, after a trial in 2007. In 2008, Takahashi and Tran first Japanese champion in pair skating. 2010 and 2011 they stood on the podium at the Junior World Championships. In 2010 she debuted already in Four Continents Championships and 2011 World Championships.

At the 2012 World Championships in Nice Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran won a surprise bronze medal. It was the first World Championship medal for Japan in the pairs figure skating.
