Natty Dread is a music album by Bob Marley & The Wailers, released in 1974. The album is considered Marley's most popular, especially in Western markets, possibly due to the merger of strong elements of British and American rock. Natty Dread was the first album, which was recorded without the original members Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, but with the I- Threes, a background vocal trio, consisting of his wife Rita Marley and Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt.

How many reggae albums at this time is Natty Dread a political and social statement. It starts with a blues -like celebration of the Rastafarian religion, Lively Up Yourself, which Marley often used as the opening song at his concerts. The U.S. singer Prince used it for the same purpose. No Woman No Cry, the second piece, Marley 's best-known song. It is an ode about his former life in Trench Town, a district of Kingston, mainly consisting of slums. Marley wanted to show the people of Trench Town, that he had not forgotten them, and his old life. It represents a kind of consolation song and also dedicated to his wife Rita. No Woman No Cry is a ballad, which has been performed by many other artists, such as Pearl Jam, Jimmy Buffett and Rancid. Was written No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley himself, the album, however, is Vincent Ford (1940-2008), a childhood friend of Marley Trenchtown, called as a songwriter. The reason for this was that he wrote the same song earlier, but then signed a contract for a record company that he would publish the songs only in this record company. Therefore, he simply changed to Natty Dread the name of the songwriter. Marley said he had died as a child on several occasions, he had not had the help Fords.

Them Belly Full ( But We Hungry ) is a warning not to let the poor starve, because, "a hungry mob is an angry mob " (Eng.: a hungry mob is an angry mob ), while Talkin 'Blues Revolution and deeper go in controversial political comments. Rebel Music is a Widerspieglung the possible influence of reggae music in the Jamaican society. The song was written after Marley was stopped at a nighttime police car control. The influence of Marley's increasing devotion to the Rastafarian religion can be heard in the religious songs So Jah Seh, Natty Dread and Lively Up Yourself, while Marley's reputation as romantics in smooth, gentle songs like Bend Down Low is confirmed.
