Near Islands

The Near Islands ( "near islands" ) are the western island group of the Aleutian Islands. The Alaska (USA) belonging Near Islands are the closest to the Russian mainland island group of the Aleutian Islands and therefore received by the Russian explorers that name.

The largest of the Near Islands are Attu and Agattu Iceland. Historical earthquakes

Here, an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale on 1 February 1975 at 22:43:39.1 local time. When quake several people were injured on Shemya Iceland and there was great damage to property. On Shemya vertical displacements of up to 16.5 m were observed. Landslides occurred, water tanks shattered and underground water pipes broke. The quake was felt on Attu.
