Neukirch (bei Königsbrück)

Neukirch is a municipality in the district of Bautzen in Saxony. It belongs to the administrative community Koenigsbrueck.

Geography and transport

The small community is located in the predominantly forested heathland Königsbrücker Heide, partly belong to the landscape protection area Westlausitz. The neighboring municipalities are Koenigsbrueck, Schönteichen and Schwepnitz; 10 km east lies the town of Kamenz. Neukirch is east of the former military training area Koenigsbrueck. Through the village flows the Otterbach.

History

The district Schmorkau 1342 first mentioned. In the course of the Saxon municipal reform, the current municipality Neukirch was formed on 1 March 1994 from the communities Neukirch, Schmorkau, Gottschdorf and Weissbach bei Koenigsbrueck. Koitzsch joined them on 1 January 1999.
