New Siberia

New Siberia (Russian: Новая Сибирь, Novaya Sibir ) is the second largest of the Anschuinseln, it belongs geographically to the archipelago of the New Siberian Islands and is located in the East Siberian Sea.

The island is about 6200 km ² large and very flat, its highest point stands only 76 m above sea level. It mainly consists of stratifications from the Quaternary and is therefore a product of the Ice Age. Those sites which are not covered by ice, have tundra vegetation.

Was discovered the island in 1806 by Russian merchants.
