The Norwegian Spirit was built as a superstar Leo for the shipping company Star Cruises, Singapore, by Meyer Werft in Papenburg. Keel was on October 5, 1997. The acquisition of Superstar Leo was on 24 September 1998 in Southampton, England, instead. On 17 October 1998, the ship participated in the service.

History

The Superstar Leo was the first ship of the " Leo - class " within the Star Cruises shipping company. The base port of the Superstar Leo in 1998 was Singapore. From there cruises were carried out for two to five nights to Malaysia and Thailand. A year later met the sister ship, the SuperStar Virgo, one in Singapore. This was stationed from September 10, 1999 in Hong Kong, from where cruises to China, Hainan, Vietnam, and were offered by the South China Sea.

2003, the Superstar Leo was transferred to Australia. The main reason was the then outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza in Asia. Later the ship was transferred to Hong Kong. 2004 wanted to put the Pride of America in service the Norwegian Cruise Line. Shortly before the completion of the ship sank during a storm at the Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven. But for this ship already trips were booked, the Superstar Leo was taken within the parent company Star Cruises in the NCL fleet and put into service after a renovation just two weeks as Norwegian Spirit. First, they sailed together with the Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Star originally planned for the Norwegian Sky Cruises to Alaska. She then moved to their port of departure to New York for Caribbean cruises. 2012 was the first ship to Europe. She is the second ship of the company, which is open all year on the road in European waters. In the summer months they will start from Barcelona and Venice, in the winter they visited the Canary Islands from Barcelona.

Cabins and onboard facilities

Facilities all cabins of the Norwegian Spirit, a telephone, air conditioning, TV, safe, duvet, bathroom with shower / WC hairdryer. Lower beds in cabins with bunk beds can be converted into a double bed.

Safety and navigation equipment

The Superstar Leo was the first cruise ship with a helipad. This was involuntarily tested on the test drive on 4th and 5th September 1998. When a crew member asked a doctor determines an acute appendicitis. A rescue helicopter landed on the ship and brought the patient to Emden to the hospital. Thanks to the quick help of this was back in good health after a few days. Also completely new was a rescue system for cruise ships, where passengers will be spent on rescue tubes into the liferafts. This new Rettungsart was carried out on 15 September 1998 under observation of other cruise lines, government agencies, shipyards and suppliers.

As a navigation system on the bridge of the system STN Atlas NACOS is 45-3 used.

Incidents

  • 2005 touched the ship pier in Juneau, Alaska, which had minor injuries resulted.
  • 2006, the Norwegian Spirit contact with a monster wave off the island of Tortola.
  • 2007 touched the ship again a pier, this time in the port of New York.
  • May 25, 2008, 9 clock in the morning, the ship touched during the docking maneuver at Pier 88 parts of Pier 90 in New York City. Part of the support beams of a car park and the bow of the Norwegian Spirit were here damaged.
  • In March 2011, the ship had a delay of twelve hours. This was caused on the one hand by a death of a passenger, as well as with a collision with a pier in Mexico.
