Novigrad, Zadar County
Novigrad (it. Novegradi ) is a harbor village in Zadar in the Croatian region of Dalmatia.
Location
The town lies at the mouth of the creek in the Draga Novigrad Sea.
History
First documented in the 13th century. Above the town are the remains of a fortress from the period. Between 1386 and 1387 here the king Louis I of Anjou, Jelisava and their daughter Maria widow, wife of King Sigismund was recorded. The parish church is dedicated to St. Martin, a hall church with free-standing bell tower located at the edge of the old town. The town was hit hard during the Croatian War affected.
Population
The municipality has Novigrad 2011 2.375 inhabitants according to the census. The main village has 534 inhabitants.
