Novouzensk

Nowousensk (Russian Новоузенск ) is a town in Saratov Oblast (Russia) with 17,011 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 200 km southeast of Saratov Oblasthauptstadt near the border with Kazakhstan in the mouth of the river Tschertanly in the Great Usen ( Bolshoi Usen ), on its left bank.

Nowousensk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The town lies on the railway line to Alexandrov Gai, which branches in Krasny Kut from the track Saratov -Astrakhan.

History

1760 Tschertanla village was founded in place of the present town of Old Believers, named after the river ( about turksprachig for pike river). 1835 was the place the town charter under the name of Nowy Usen ( New Usen; contrast to the already further upstream at the Bolshoi Usen fortress located Usen ). Later renamed Nowousensk was.
