Geography

Bludenz is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, the district of Bludenz. 58.1 percent of the area is forested. There are no other local villages in Bludenz.

History

The Walgau was already in the Stone Age and the Bronze Age - that is 1250 BC - colonized, and indeed then developed the Rhaetians from the tribe of the Illyrians from the. Bludenz is the oldest settlement in the Walgau and had been in Roman times some importance, as the Roman road from Reutte to Bregenz led by Bludenz. Name

The name comes from the Nüziders Rhaetian language and was first mentioned in 820 as Vicus Nezudene. Etymologically, the name is interpreted as Romansch or vulgar Latin variation of the Latin " nucis terra " which means as much as walnut country, nut or nut box village.

According to another opinion derives the first part from the Latin word ' fornaces ' for ' furnace ' and the second part of the word is not interpretable extension ' dura ' from.
