O'Brien Smith

O'Brien Smith ( * 1756 in Ireland; † April 27, 1811 ) was an American politician. Between 1805 and 1807, he represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

About the life of Smith O'Brien there is little information. Neither be more precise place of birth nor the date of birth are known. The sources believe that he was born about 1756 in Ireland. He grew up in his native country and came to the end of the American War of Independence to South Carolina. On 31 July 1784, he made ​​the oath of allegiance to the United States.

In his new home, Smith began a political career. Between 1791 and 1799 he was a member of the House of Representatives of South Carolina. In 1803 he was elected to the State Senate. In the congressional elections of 1804 he was a candidate of the Democratic-Republican Party in the fourth constituency of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Wade Hampton on March 4, 1805. Until March 3, 1807, he completed a term in Congress.

Smith's other life is as uncertain as its origin. He died on April 27, 1811 at an unknown location and was buried near Jacksonboro.
