Obuasi Municipal District

The Obuasi Metropolitan District is one of 138 districts in Ghana. Because of its urban structure it belongs to the few metropolitan districts of identification. It is located in the center of Ghana in the Ashanti Region, where a regional of only two urban ( metropolitan ) districts with a total of 21 districts.

The Obuasi metropolitan district borders the districts Amansie Central, Adansi North, Adansi South and in the neighboring Southern Central Region to the districts Upper Denkyira and Assin North. Chief Executive is Joseph K. Boampong based in the district capital of Obuasi.

Up to the administrative reforms by decree of President John Agyekum Kufuor, the city was the capital of the district Obuasi Adansi West, which was divided into North and Adansi Obuasi Municipal.

Constituencies

The Obuasi Metropolitan District is divided into two constituencies. For the Obuasi constituency moved in the parliamentary elections in 2004, Edward Michael Ennin of the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) in parliament. Moved for the constituency Akrofuom Kwabena Appiah - Pinkrah (NPP ) in parliament.
