Palézieux

Palézieux was until 31 December 2011, a municipality in the district of Lavaux-Oron in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The former municipality consists of two centers: Palézieux and Palézieux -Gare. On January 1, 2012 merged with Palézieux Oron.

Geography

Palézieux is located at 634 m above sea level. M., 2 km south of Oron- la -Ville and 16 km east of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The village is located in the wide valley of the Haute- Broye, between the rivers of the Broye and their right Mionne Bach, in the eastern marginal zone of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​5.8 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion of the upper Broyetals and the adjacent Molassehöhen in the foothills. The central part of the former municipality of surface forms the wide ravine in the Haute- Broye, which is traversed by the Broye from southeast to northwest. Population

With 1,326 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2010) Palézieux belongs to the medium-sized former municipalities of the canton of Vaud. Of the 89.9 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.4 % and 2.1 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Palézieux amounted in 1900 to 587 inhabitants. Throughout the 20th century the population began to slowly but steadily; only during the 1980s increased population increase was recorded.

Economy

Palézieux was until the mid-20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Even today, the crop and livestock farming have a certain role in the occupational structure of the population. Many other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. In Palézieux -Gare is a larger industrial park. Among the local companies include companies from the pharmaceutical field, the body, the production of construction machinery, a locksmith and a welding shop. Since 1863 Palézieux is the site of the Institut Romand d'éducation de Serix. Traffic

The former municipality is traffic-infrastructure. It lies on the road from Moudon via Oron- la -Ville to Vevey. On September 4, 1862, the railway line from Lausanne to Freiburg was taken with the Palézieux- Gare in operation. Palézieux -Gare is a railway junction, since the branches opened on August 25, 1876 via Moudon line to Payerne. This route also has a railway station in Palézieux. On 29 April 1901, the narrow gauge railway line from Palézieux -Gare to Châtel -Saint -Denis was finally inaugurated. History

Remains of a Roman Villa witness a settlement of the municipality of Palézieux since Roman times. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1134 under the name Pallexiu, Palleysieu and Palaisol. Later published numerous other spellings: Palatiolum ( 1141 ), Palaysol, Palazuz, Palaziolum and Pallasiolum ( 1155 ), Palesuez ( 1218 ), Palasuel ( 1228 ), Pallexieu ( 1545 ), and for the first time Palézieux (1675 ). From 1867 Palaisieux and Palésieux have survived. The place name derives from the Latin word palatiolum ( diminutive of palatium ) in the definition of small palace from.

Palézieux formed in the Middle Ages, a rule which was under the suzerainty of Savoy. The Lords of Palézieux founded next to the bridge of the Broye in the 12th century a castle. After the conquest of Vaud by Bern, the village came in 1557 to the Bernese bailiff Oron. Attractions

Already in the 12th century was in Palézieux a church. The present building in the classical style dates from 1829, while the rectory was built in 1707. From the former castle Palézieux some remains of walls are still preserved.
