Pians

Pians is a municipality with 798 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Landeck district in Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Landeck.

Location

Pians is located on the main road to the Arlberg on a slope. With the completion of a tunnel of Arlbergschnellstraße the place was relieved from traffic. West of Pians meet along the rivers Rosanna from the Punch valley and Trisanna from the Paznauntal and unite to Sanna.

History

The climatically favorable area was inhabited in pre-Roman times. The name Pians derives from the Latin " Pedaneus " which means as much as bridge or jetty. Quadratsch is also of Latin origin and is derived from " ager quadratus " disused Roman soldiers, who have created a veteran settlement here from. The population Pians ' called Pianner not Pianser. Reason is the Romansh origin of the place name. This ends with the Latin nominative -s, so the genitive is formed without -s.

In the Middle Ages Pians was a street intersection, it could be the time down many traders as Wagner and saddlery. 1849 raged a fire disaster, which fell victim to several houses. From 1880 to 1884, the Arlberg railway was built and Pians received a railway station. The passenger train in punch Valley is set now.

  • The Chapel of St.. Margaretha dates from the 14th century and frescoes from the 15th century. The altar was carved by the sculptor Michael Lech Leitner from Grins to in 1650.

Economy

The most important employer is the bacon and sausage producer Handl Tyrol, whose products are marketed nationwide. There are also smaller craft and some tourism. Agriculture is in decline.
