Pleigne is a municipality in the district Delémont the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Pleen is no longer used today.

Geography

Pleigne is located 809 meters above sea level. Level, 6 km north-west from the cantonal capital Delémont ( straight line ). The former street line village is located on a high plateau in the hills of the northern Jura Mountains, near the border with France.

The area of ​​17.8 km ² large municipality territory comprises largely of meadows covered plateau of Pleigne (up to 842 m above sea level. M. ). This is in the south of the Valley of the Côte de Mai, bounded on the west and north from the valley of Lucelle ( German Luetzel ) and to the east by Bavelier Valley. In the south, the territory extends over the plateau Sur la Croix ( 850 m above sea level. M. here is the highest point of the municipality) in the upper part of Mettembert valley and up to the northern slopes of the Les- Rangiers chain. On the west, the area includes the valley of Lucelle and the eastern slopes of Les Aidjolats (up to 740 m above sea level. M. ). To the east, the municipal area extends over the praise (805 m above sea level. M. ) and the heights of Löwenburg up to the evil Bach. The entire northern border is the stream of Lucelle, which also represents the border with France and almost drained the whole municipal area. From the municipality surface 1997 3 % was attributable to settlements, 50 % of forest and woody plants and 47% to agriculture.

To Pleigne include Lucelle (604 m above sea level. M. ) on a lake dammed the Lucelle, Lion's Castle ( 585 m above sea level. M. ) on a terrace above the Lützeltal and the left of the evil Bach of houses of Moulin -Neuf ( German Neumühlestrasse ) and numerous individual farms. Neighboring communities of Pleigne are La Baroche, Bourrignon, Mettembert, Movelier and Ederswiler in the canton of Jura, Rye Castle in the canton of Basel-Land and Lucelle and Kiffis in France.

Population

With 381 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Pleigne one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Jura. Of the 85.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking and German-speaking 14.2 % (as of 2000). The population of Pleigne amounted in 1850 to 443 residents in 1900 to 418 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range 340-440 people.

Economy

The community is still predominantly agricultural. There are few jobs outside the agricultural sector in the village. Many workers (over 50 %) are therefore commuters and work mainly in the region Delémont.

Traffic

Pleigne is very isolated and connected only by small local roads to the neighboring towns. The village is connected by bus route that runs from Delémont via Mettembert after Pleigne to public transport.

History

First mention is Pleigne 1179 in a document from Pope Alexander III. as Plenna. This name comes from the Latin planeolum ( small plateau ). Pleigne was one of the 13 free villages in the reign Dels mountain. But the monastery Luetzel possessed fundamental rights to many parts of today's municipal area. The place belonged from 1389 to 1454 as a fief of the Counts of Thierstein, then he came to the Prince-Bishopric of Basel. Between 1793 and 1815 belonged Pleigne to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and on 1 January 1979 at the newly founded Canton Jura.

Attractions

The Church of Pleigne was built in 1787 in Baroque style on the site of an earlier church. Its bell tower shows a Byzantine dome. Noteworthy are the André Brêchet 1953 designed stained-glass windows, which are among the first of its kind in the canton of Jura. Next to the church are the vicarage of 1825 and the former school building of 1845. The mill in the valley of Bavelier is from 1629 and was renovated in 1710. Furthermore, a historic inn is in the hamlet of Moulin -Neuf.
