Poggio Renatico

Poggio Renatico is a town with 9770 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ferrara in northeast Italy.

Geographical location

The city is located 15 km southwest of the provincial capital of Ferrara at the administrative border between the province of Ferrara and the province of Bologna. A neighboring town is Sant'Agostino in the West.

Among the districts ( fractions) include Chiesa Nuova, coronella, Gallo and Madonna Boschi.

Borders the following municipalities: Baricella, Ferrara, Galliera, Malalbergo, Mirabello, Sant'Agostino and Vigarano Mainarda.

History

The village is possibly resulted from settlements of the Roman period. Since 1300, it was owned by the Lambertini family from Bologna. 1862, the city of Ferrara was incorporated.

Others

On the former military airfield of Poggio Renatico ( ⊙ 44.7926111.49333 ) is a base for the Italian Air Force is a national Operations Command ( Comando delle operazioni Aeree ). A similar body of NATO ( Combined Air Operations Centre) was on the site until June 2013, since then only a Deployable Air Command and Control Centre available. The tasks of the former CAOC PR ( 5) took over the CAOC TJ (8) in Spanish Torrejón de Henares.
