History

Pogoń Szczecin is a very well known club in Poland. The history of the association is characterized by numerous off and on again climbs, financial difficulties and investors with questionable intentions.

In 1948 it came to the creation of the " Klub Sportowy Sztorm ". The claret- red and dark blue club colors were taken over by the then giants Pogoń Lwów, which had existed before the war, now in its Ukrainian Lviv. Seven years and several name changes later, one finally agreed to " MKS Pogoń Szczecin ". The club then played successfully in a regional league and entered ten years after the founding of the first time in the highest Polish league. His games played Pogoń in still existing stadium " przy ulicy Twardowskiego ", whose construction lasted for about eight years and was completed in 1955. The first floodlit game was also held in 1955: Pogoń lost before 11,000 spectators with 2:4 against Kolejarz Poznan. Meanwhile, the capacity is just under 18,000 spectators, with all seats are.

After the 1959/60 season of FMD had for the first time they went up the aisle in League 2. After two years of being second class we got back on in the House of Lords. This process of ups and downs occurred up to the 1997/98 season a total of five times. Between 1966 and 1979, played Pogoń thirteen years premium, which is the longest stay in one piece in the Polish Ekstraklasa for the club. The 1986/87 season was the most successful to date for the port city dwellers, as they finished in second place in the league. But just two years later Pogoń was again only second-rate.

The years 1999-2003 are among the most contrasty years of the club's history. The city of Szczecin refused the club 's financial support, which meant an enormous mountain of debt. The Turkish businessman Sabri Bekdas took over the debts and got the stadium environment given in return. However, runner-up in 2001 in the UEFA Cup failed Pogoń already in the qualification: Sabri bought new, successful both on the Polish and international level players a ( including the top scorer in FIFA World Cup 1994, Oleg Salenko ) and repeated the biggest club success. to Fylkir Reykjavík. Then there was disagreement between the city and Bekdas. While Bekdas stopped its financial support, Pogońs liabilities increased once again to enormous dimensions and Bekdas let the club fall.

The Swedish businessman Les Gondor now operated as an investor, but through his involvement in several scandals were dispensed to working with Gondor and Pogoń Szczecin was now the third time within a short time without money there. 2003, two years after the runner, Pogoń Szczecin got down to the second division. Losses such as the 0:9 or 1:7 against Gornik Zabrze against Odra Wodzisław made the inglorious departure.

In the second division arrived, the club was dissolved before the start of the season finally on. All that was left was the memory of times past. Until then played in Poland's second league club called Piotrkovia, one from a city with nearly 80,000 residents derived, by his standards pretty stable club. The owner Piotrkovias was Antoni Ptak. His idea of the club Piotrkovia accommodate in Szczecin and to merge with " MKS Pogoń Szczecin 'was not huge protests and riots, both on the part of Piotrkovia pendant and on the part of the former Pogoń fans. However, by the beginning of the season did not have much time and you agreed to it, " to try ". In the same year the club Pogoń Szczecin Nowa was founded by the Pogoń fan club but, who played in the lower leagues. Ptak kept his promise, the new club within a very short time in one league to bring. Already in the summer of 2004 celebrated thousands of Pogoń -Stettin fans the resurgence. The stadium was sold out at almost every home game.

Since this rise Pogoń Szczecin Poland played in the highest league. The owner Antoni Ptak wanted a team that should only consist of the Brazilian players. Consequently Ptak renounced the services of several Polish players, including the current Polish national team Przemyslaw Kazmierczak and Rafal Grzelak, who moved to Boavista Porto in the Portuguese league. Ptaks intentions enticed to play between the Brazilian Pogoń and Wisła Kraków in March 2006, representatives of the clubs Manchester United, FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund to the stadium przy ulicy Twardowskiego. The play of the third-class Brazilians was no response from them. Ptaks Players policy led the club in a crisis: now the Brazilians played to almost empty benches, revenue fell out, sponsors have backed out and the players complain frequently about unpaid salaries.

The audience in the season 2006/ 07 fell to just under 3,000 fans, with the exception of some classics such as against arch-rivals Lech Poznan Legia Warszawa or his friend. The club was a byword number for the media. Many promising talents from the region, for the Pogoń always represented a springboard into the big football, did not see any more development opportunities and changed in other parts of Poland. The fans lost their identification with the team and there were massive protests that degenerated even in direct threats against Antoni Ptak on Internet forums.

Ptak no longer reported the club to the 2007/2008 season the 2nd league at the Association. Finally, the Pogoń fan clubs and two local businessmen who call themselves Pogoń pendant the association reported, new to the fourth league. The club merged with the Association Pogoń Szczecin Nowa and within a week a troupe of former Pogoń - veterans and talents from the region was summoned, who started the season without any preparations. After several sporting and organizational difficulties at the beginning, the club was after the first round at rank 1, drew 5,000 spectators despite fourth league more viewers than many first division in Poland. The city also participated in the reconstruction and the club could keep up if the Transferpolitk, the marketing concept and the financial situation now with second-division clubs. In addition, the club used in contrast to Ptak era carefully the traditions of the club, including through several actions and events around the association's anniversary 2008 60 -year-old.

In June 2008, the club reached a safe first place in the league, followed by 0:1 and 4:1 in the relegation against Zatoka Puck promotion to the new second league after the renaming of the Polish League for season 2008/2009 the former third league was. After the end of the season running talks on a possible involvement of Groclin - owner and multimillionaire Zbigniew Drzymała as an investor, but were unsuccessful. In the second league to Pogoń was able to secure a 4th place in the first round, after some initial difficulty; by a strong second half Pogoń occupied the 2nd place and was so on the final day to celebrate his second ascent after another in front of 8,000 spectators. Pogoń Szczecin had in the 2008/2009 season with 62,000 spectators, about 3440 per match, the highest average attendance of the 2nd Polish League, with up to 8,000 spectators on a game day. Even Away drew more viewers than usual Pogoń to the stadium of the home team. Overall Pogoń was statistically the most playing away team in the league.

In the 2009/2010 season Pogoń played again in the Polish 1st League, where they finished at the end of the first round as League newcomer with an almost completely renewed squad the second place, the rise but did not make for a slightly weaker second half. In the Polish Cup managed Pogoń, by checking Polonia Warszawa and Piast Gliwice and record champions Ruch Chorzów eliminated, until the final, where they lost to Jagiellonia Białystok 0-1. After Pogoń in the 2010/11 season only finished sixth, they finished a season later, after a strong first round the first place, thus securing the Autumn Cup.
