The station Potsdam -Babelsberg is an S- train station in the district of Potsdam Babelsberg. It is located on the tracks of the extended Wannseebahn between the Griebnitzsee train station and the Hauptbahnhof Potsdam.

Location

The station is located in the Babelsberg district and is surrounded by the Rudolf -Breitscheid- street, Karl- Liebknecht-Straße, School Street and Watts Street. It is located at kilometer 31.2 of the Wannsee train that runs in this area parallel to the mainline tracks of the railway line between Berlin and Magdeburg.

History

The first breakpoint in Babelsberg was established in 1862 under the name New Village as special support for the Hofzüge the Prussian king to the root path. It was located west of the present railway station. From 1866/1868 held regular trains on the first equipped with a side platform station, later it was extended to a second side platform.

From 1888, the tracks of the Wannseebahn of Neubabelsberg were (now Griebnitzsee ) extended to Potsdam, so in this section ran four tracks. The old station was closed and opened a new suburban railway station to the Wannsee train tracks in the current situation. As of May 1, 1890 this was the double name Neuendorf - Nowawes, to March 1, 1908 renamed Nowawes, the Czech translation of Neuendorf. From 11 June, 1928, the station was served by electric trains of the Berlin City, ring and suburban railways, which run from 1 September under the name S-Bahn. With the construction of the Wall on 13 August 1961 the rail link from Potsdam to West Berlin was interrupted. By 9 October, a commuter train traffic island between Potsdam city Babelsberg Griebnitzsee was maintained and then replaced by diesel railcars. The trains ran from Griebnitzsee about Babelsberg, Potsdam City, Potsdam West ( today Potsdam Charlottenhof ) to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof ( Potsdam today Pirschheide ). Facilities

The station consists of a 159 meter long island platform in high location with two platform tracks on the otherwise single-track in this area S- Bahn line. It is regularly used for train crossings. The two mainline tracks run south past the railway station. On both platforms each have a staircase leads to a provided with skylights anteroom where previously stood the ticket offices. Today the premises of a restaurant, snack bars and a florist are used. Outputs lead to the Karl- Liebknecht-Straße in the west and to the east Watt Street.

The train station is a listed building.

The S-Bahn station is served by the S1 S-Bahn Berlin. There is a transit traffic to the bus and tram lines of the transport operation Potsdam.
