The name Rainer was at the beginning of the 20th century, hardly known in Germany. His popularity increased during the late twenties and experienced towards the end of the thirties a further boost. In the forties and fifties, the name was several times among the ten most- awarded boy name. Then its spread then strong first went something back in the eighties.

Last name

Rainer as a surname is particularly common in West Austria and Bavaria. This is one of the language area in the Bavarian widespread habitation name from the word ' Rain ( as in Feldrain or riparian ) derives etymologically therefore has a very different origin than the first name.
