Rhein-Kreis Neuss

The Rhein-Kreis Neuss is a Kreis in North Rhine -Westphalia in the district of Dusseldorf. The district seat is the city of Neuss.

The Rhein-Kreis Neuss is bordered to the north by the district of Viersen and to the cities of Krefeld and Duisburg, on the east by the county-level city of Dusseldorf and the district of Mettmann, in the south of the district-free city of Cologne and the Rhine -Erft, in the West to the circles Düren and Heinberg and the district-free city Mönchengladbach.

History

As early as Roman times the area of today's Rhein-Kreis Neuss was inhabited, as evidenced by, inter alia, historical names such as Novaesium ( Neuss ) and Durnomagus ( Dormagen ). Other place names derived from the Frankish settlement such as Kaarst, Grevenbroich and Rommerskirchen.

(From 1822 Rhine Province ) 1816 in the Prussian province of Jülich- Kleve -Berg district of Neuss and the district Grevenbroich. 1913, the city of Neuss was acyclic. 1929 a profound territorial reform was carried out. The circles Grevenbroich and the rest Kreis Neuss were combined and renamed the new district in county Grevenbroich- Neuss. In addition, the communities Kleinenbroich, Korschenbroich, Liedberg and Pesch were added from the former county Gladbach. In 1946 he was rückbenannt in county Grevenbroich. On January 1, 1975, the district-free city of Neuss incorporated as part of the municipal restructuring in North Rhine -Westphalia as the new county seat in the circle Grevenbroich and this renamed Kreis Neuss. Since then, Neuss is measured by the number of inhabitants, the largest belonging to a county (ie, not county-level ) city in the Federal Republic of Germany, from the special cases of the association members cities Saarbrücken, Hannover and Aachen apart. After the council of the district of Neuss had decided its renaming, the interior minister of North Rhine -Westphalia approved on 26 May 2003 with effect from 1 July 2003 the new name Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The county seat is located in Neuss, however, significant parts of the district administration are not located in Neuss, but in Grevenbroich.

The circle is a member of the network teXellence.

Since 2010, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss first Fairtrade circuit in Germany.

Coat of arms

The Electorate of Cologne cross and the lion indicate the tradition of the circle that has stood with large parts formerly kurkölnischer and Jülich rule. Through the municipal reorganization on 1 January 1975 entered for the previous circle Grevenbroich extent of that change, as the hitherto independent city of Neuss incorporated into the District Association, the city of Neuss district town was and the circle Grevenbroich since called Kreis Neuss. The coat of arms of the former district Grevenbroich applies unchanged to the Rhein-Kreis Neuss.

Council

The last municipal election was held on 30 August 2009 in Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The CDU reached 43.8 % of the vote (32 seats), the SPD 22.6 % (17 seats), the FDP 11.6 % (9 seats), the Greens 10.5 % (8 seats), the Independent voters Community Rhein-Kreis Neuss (UWG ) 3.4 % (3 seats), the Left 2.8% (2 seats), the CENTER 1.9% ( 1 seat), the right-wing citizens' movement Pro NRW ( NRW Pro ) 1.7 % ( 1 seat) and the Active Citizens Community ( Active ) 1.2% ( 1 seat). Not represented in the council is the NPD with 0.5 %.

The council members of the UWG and Active have teamed up to a fraction Community. The two council members of the Left have left their party in the summer of 2012 and established an Independent Left List ( Ulli ). The district council member of Pro NRW has left the party in January 2013 and is now run as a " non-party ".

30 Jewish cemeteries have been documented for the Rhein-Kreis Neuss: in Dormagen ( 2), in Grevenbroich (11 ), in Juechen ( 5), in Korschenbroich ( 3), in Neuss ( 4), in Rommerskirchen (3) and in sea Busch (2). There are worth protecting cultural monuments - stone witnesses for previously existing Jewish communities and a lively Jewish community life until the 1930s.
