Rix (Jura)

Rix, locally the name Rix - Trébief is common, is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rix is ​​about eleven kilometers east of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming community extends in the Jura, a slightly elevated position to the south of the valley of the brook Settière, opposite the hill of Nozeroy.

The area of ​​5.17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern border is always in the area of the creek Settière flowing through a wide Talniederung to the west, is dammed below Trébief to the pond Etang de la Settière and drains the area over the stream serpentine for Ain. History

Are first mentioned Rix and Trébief in the 14th century. Since the Middle Ages the village belonged to the dominion Nozeroy. Following a plague epidemic in the early 17th century, they were destroyed in 1639 by troops of Duke Bernhard of Saxe- Weimar. Together with the Franche -Comté they came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To a field change occurred in 1827, when the previously independent Rix was combined with Trébief.

Population

With 83 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Rix is one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 181 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Rix was until well into the 20th century a predominantly shaped by agriculture, particularly dairy farming and cattle community. Even today, the inhabitants live primarily from this activity. The community is located off the major thoroughfares near a secondary road that leads from Nozeroy after Cerniébaud. Another road connection with Billecul.
