Robin Frijns

Frijns (born 7 August 1991, Maastricht) is a Dutch racing driver. He was the 2010 Champions European Formula BMW, 2011 Masters of Formula Renault 2.0 Euro Cup and 2012 champion of the Formula Renault 3.5.

Career

Frijns began his motorsport career in 1999 in karting, where he was active until 2008. Among other things, he was runner-up in 2008 the French KF2 Championship. In 2009 he moved to the Formula racing and entered for Josef Kaufmann Racing in the European Formula BMW. Frijns opted for a race and finished third in the championship. He also won the ranking of the best newcomer. 2010 remained Frijns with Josef Kaufmann Racing and denied his second season in the Formula BMW Europe. After he was a large part of the season behind Jack Harvey in second place in the Drivers 'Championship, he took on the last race weekend of the lead in the drivers' standings and won a total of six wins the championship before Harvey. Since the series was set end of the season, he was the last master of the European Formula BMW. He also took part in three races of the North European Formula Renault, scoring a victory.

2011 Frijns went for Josef Kaufmann Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup at the start. With five victories, he decided the championship ahead of itself. In addition, he joined in 2011 for Josef Kaufmann Racing to race on some of the northern European Formula Renault. With a win, he was in this series in fourth place overall. 2012 moved to Frijns Fortec Motorsport in the Formula Renault 3.5. After Frijns had finished third in his debut at Motorland Aragón, a day later he won his first Formula Renault 3.5 race. With two more victories in Volokolamsk and Mogyoród and a total of eight podium finishes Frijns decided the league title in his debut season for themselves. At the last race of the season in Catalunya Frijns caused a collision with his title rival Jules Bianchi, who retired there. Frijns was indeed occupied after the race with a penalty for this maneuver and fell out of the points, but since he was already in front of the race ahead of Bianchi, did not change the overall result of the driver, while his team is thereby lost one position in the team standings. Frijns decided the duel against Bianchi with 189 to 184 points. After the season Frijns graduated Formula 1 test driving for Red Bull and Sauber.

2013 Frijns practiced at Sauber the position of the Formula 1 test driver from. In addition, he graduated from GP2 tests for Trident Racing. To a commitment to the team, it did not come. After he was in the season opener of the GP2 Series 2013 season without cockpit, he was awarded a place at Hilmer Motorsport for the second event. On its debut weekend, he had no points. In his second appearance in Barcelona, he won the main race and finished second in the sprint race. Due to a lack of sponsor Frijns had at Hilmer no fixed contract, but was confirmed in each case for an event. After five race weekends at Hilmer Motorsport he lost his cockpit to Adrian Quaife - Hobbs. An event later he took over for a weekend, the vehicle of his former team Kollegens Jon Lancaster. Frijns participated in six of the eleven race weekends and finished the season in 15th place overall. 2014 Frijns Formula 1 test driver for Caterham. In this role, he will also take part in Friday practice.

Frijns chose the # 46 as its Formula 1 race number. He has the number previously only been used in training sessions.
